Schools

PEDEC aims to help schools explore the links between our lives and those of people throughout the world. This leads on to developing skills, attitudes and values to enable people to work together towards a more just and sustainable world for all.

PEDEC offers:

  • A Free Resources Loan Service of teacher’s packs, videos, music packs and books relating to global citizenship and sustainable development issues.
  • A termly newsletter to Primary and Secondary schools – PEDEC POST.
  • A programme of Workshops, delivered by qualified teachers, designed to bring the wider world into the classroom.  We are currently offering two workshops - a Fair Shares one for schools in South Powys who thinking of working towards obtaining the Fairtrade status (see under Fairtrade) and a Climate Change workshop for primary schools in Breconshire.  Both of these are free half days.

Resources Loan Service

This free service operates for both primary and secondary schools through the internal mail service of Powys County Council.

Items from the PEDEC catalogue (issued free to all Powys schools) can be requested by phoning the PEDEC office or completing the order form on the Contact page.

Books and packs can be borrowed for a term, videos and music packs for half a term.

Global Education in a Box

global education in a boxGlobal Education in a Box is a practical model of treating ESDGC as a whole and aims to save teachers time in researching and selecting resources with which to develop a school programme to promote Global Citizenship.  Resources from a variety of publishers are provided, together with highlighted sample activities of 16 PSE lessons for KS3.  It is divided into four sections:  Interdependence, Looking after the Earth, Global Fairness and Celebrating Diversity.  The box is available to borrow via our Resource Loan Service.

  1. Global Gang Heads For Cool Planet

    earth from spaceA day of thought provoking activities aimed to raise awareness of and promote Global Citizenship and Sustainable Living. Emphasis is on Global Sharing of the Earth’s resources and how good Global Citizens are citizens who don’t waste resources. Children are shown a display box containing symbols of the 4 themes for the day. They are also issued with an individual Global Passport.

  2. Trees Mean Life

    This project aims to raise awareness of the Global interdependence between people and trees. Emphasis is on Global Sharing of the Earth's resources, What being a Global Citizen is all about and how Global Citizens are citizens who do not waste resources and try to live sustainably.
